Batman: The Animated Series Heading to Blu-Ray

The Dark Knight Remastered.

Warner Bros. has announced that Batman: The Animated Series - the beloved cartoon adaptation of the Dark Knight's adventures from the 1990s - will be arriving in remastered form on Blu-ray in 2018.

The announcement was made at New York Comic-Con as part of a special panel held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original series, with long-standing Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy, Tara Strong (Batgirl in The New Batman Adventures) and original series producers Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett.

Details about the release are pretty vague, although CBR reports that publicist Gary Miereanu told the gathered crowd that they should expect the eventual release to be "later" in 2018. It's also not clear whether the release will also include follow-up series The New Batman Adventures, or whether it will simply comprise the original animated series.

The news follows July's release of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm - the successful movie birthed from the series - on Blu-ray.
