Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange may play a more substantial role in Thor: Ragnarok than originally expected.
While set photos and the post-credits sequence for the Doctor Strange solo film had indicated that the Sorceror Supreme would appear in the upcoming Thor sequel, a new plot synopsis on official Disney fansite, D23 suggests that he may be more central to the film than a simple cameo:
"Thor: Ragnarok in November brings together Thor, the Hulk, and Doctor Strange to face off against intergalactic baddies both familiar and new."
The film has previously been described as a "cosmic road trip" featuring Thor and the Hulk, but the description suggests more of a three-hander. Certainly, Strange's involvement could explain how the film will switch setting to Planet Hulk's Sakaar.
In addition to Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Cumberbatch's Thor, Hulk and Strange, Ragnarok stars Jeff Goldlbum as The Grandmaster, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Karl Urban as Skurge, and Jurassic Park's Sam Neill, in a role that has yet to be revealed.
Thor: Ragnarok wrapped filming in October, with a view to opening on November 3, 2017.
