Oh, Bray Wyatt. You wonderfully disturbed swamp muffin. You have been squandered for so long. Laboring under the notion that "monsters don't need championships," you have been detoured from true greatness. Locked in years of meaningless feuds that have done nothing but deplete your tank and waste your words.
You had the potential to grow your ranks. When Harper and Rowan were at your side, your army could have swelled like a sinister serpent, wrapping its coil around the entire WWE. You kidnapped Kane, but he got better. You brainwashed Daniel Bryan - for, like, a week. Now Randy Orton, someone you weren't actually even trying to recruit, just joined your cause out of nowhere. Is he your linchpin or your downfall?
Yes, all signs point to Randy Orton long-game conning Bray. He's started to create a rift between Bray and Luke and it's very likely that he'll turn on Bray this coming TLC, costing them the titles. OR, he'll wait until they get the belts and then, down the road a bit, he'll strike. Either way, is this what Bray needs? To be beaten at his own game? I guess it all depends on whether or not you see Orton as a more valuable babyface or a more valuable heel. Would it behoove Randy to remain Team Wyatt? Or would turning on Bray, defeating the self-proclaimed "God," push Randy back up to "audience cares about you" status?
I'm of the opinion that if Bray falls to an elaborate Randy con, it'll basically be the end for him. Not that the WWE cares, or even invests that much in continuity (they play more to the casual watcher than the fact-checker fans), but for Bray to be "played for a fool" would kind of destroy him. Having someone sneak into his ranks and un-do his movement from within? That's the kiss of death.
Granted, the Bray character has been a long series of missed opportunities. His angles with Cena, Ambrose, Reigns, and so on have meant nothing. Those arcs were just ways to slowly kill three-months/PPVs-at-a-time. IF they had been for titles, something could have been gained from them. The only stakes in a Bray Wyatt feud are "Can so-and-so beat the monster?" The answer is always yes. Bray will win occasionally, but in the end he'll be bested. But if he'd managed to capture gold every so often, he'd feel much more accomplished. Hell, even Luke Harper is a former IC champ.
So give Bray and Randy the SmackDown tag titles. It's a start. The next step is NOT having Randy turn on Bray. Keep him part of the family. Let Randy wear this suit for a while. Everything's sometimes so rushed in the fall in WWE. There's this blitz to sneak in quick feuds before things get reshuffled at the Rumble and new angles are set up for WrestleMania. Let's let the Wyatts be the Wyatts for a while. The only reason I'd see Randy turning on Bray too quickly is so that Styles has someone to face after he gets past Dean at TLC.
Speaking of Styles, did anyone else severely cringe when he demolished Ellsworth this week?
Gaaaaah. Ellsworth almost died trying to take that Clash when it was all normal-like, in the ring. This one brought out the helicopter parent in me like crazy.
But Styles needed to crush Ellsworth at this point. After last week's Ladder Match loss, something had to give. Yeah, Dean-O got the drop on AJ during the final seconds of the show (RIP all those cookies - *sob*), but the champ managed to destroy Ellsworth like he was the second coming of Mitch the Potted Plant.
By the way, I thoroughly enjoyed the thought behind this Dot Com poll...
Firstly, they're asking you to choose between the match with ladders, the match with chairs, the match with tables, OR THE MATCH WITH ALL THREE.
Secondly, they want you to think about how much pain these wrestlers are going to be in. How much they're sacrificing their health and well-being for our amusement. That's kind of ruthless.
You know what else was ruthless? Becky going through that table on SmackDown. She's only got herself to blame though. She did the classic babyface move of attacking her opponent because she didn't like the mean words that were being said. The whole "Imma shut you up with my fist because I have no real counter-argument" deal. She attacked first and it backfired on her. Oh, heroes. When will you learn to take the high road?
Oh, and that whole thing where Alexa wanted to vomit because of Becky's voice? That most assuredly came from Kevin Dunn who, in a further attempt to be the worst person ever, doesn't like, or approve of, Becky's accent. He's bad and he should feel bad. But he doesn't. Not ever.
