New Pokemon Go Pikachu Easter Egg Discovered

This page contains the known easter eggs, references and secrets that can be found in Pokemon Go.

While not much is known as of this writing, it was announced at SDCC 2016 that there were still plenty of easter eggs to find.

Reddit Pokemon Go repository The Silph Raod reports that the most recent Pokemon Go update adds a neat new Easter Egg. The new Buddy System allows you to select a Pokemon partner to walk alongside your trainer icon.

If you select Pikachu as your buddy and then walk 10 kilometers, Pikachu hops onto your shoulder, a clear reference to Pikachu's habit of riding on Ash's shoulder in the Pokemon animated series.

You can choose which form to evolve your Eevee into by naming it Pyro (Flareon), Rainer (Vaporeon) or Sparky (Jolteon). This is an Easter egg reference to the Eevee Brothers from the original anime series. Note that you have to make sure you use a capital first letter and lower case names (so, "Pyro", not "pyro").

Note: your naming choice has to be registered on the Pokemon Go server -- if you've got a bad connection, we recommend that you close the app and restart it after naming your Eevee to ensure the data makes it across prior to evolving it.

Many users are reporting that this trick seems to only work once per evolutionary form, which means only one of your Eevees is guaranteed to evolve into a Vaporeon if you name it Rainer, once for Sparky, and once for Pyro.

EditAlice in Wonderland's Butter

Users on Reddit have found an odd piece of text once only spotted as a placeholder in the beta. When a user has moved the required distance before hatching an egg - but inspects the egg incubator just before it begins hatching - instead of seeing the full kilometer filled, they will instead find it reads

Hatch this egg by feeding it butter. It likes all kinds of butter, every kind. The best kind.

This text is possibly a reference to Alice in Wonderland, in a scene at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party where the Hatter exlaims that "butter wouldn't suit the works!" and the March Hare replies "It was the BEST butter."

Still others believe there may be an item not yet introduced to the game, a type of butter that may be used with the egg to somehow influence what it hatches.
