20th Century Fox's upcoming Alien Nation remake has found its director in Jeff Nichols.
According to Deadline, Nichols—who directed this year's sci-fi drama Midnight Special—is also on board to write the film, which is being produced by Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Sara Greene.
James Caan and Mandy Patinkin in 1988's Alien Nation
The original Alien Nation was released back in 1988 and stars James Caan as a cop who is forced to team up with an alien detective (Mandy Patinkin) after a spaceship crashes to Earth. Reports last year of a remake surfaced, claiming Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway were attached to pen the script.
Nichols' directorial credits also include Mud and Take Shelter, as well as Loving, a civil rights film about about interracial marriage, which opens in theaters on November 4.
