Ryan Reynolds Thinks Logan Could Contend for an Oscar

"I’ve seen some of it. It’s mind-blowing."

Logan is aiming to be a different kind of X-Men film - R-rated, more "human" and, going by the trailer, kind of heartbreaking. All of which has led Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds to tout it for major Oscars success - something that's evaded superhero films thus far, even with the new 10-strong Best Picture category.

Speaking to Variety about the possibility of Best Picture nominations for superhero films, Reynolds said that, "Logan looks like a movie that might break that glass ceiling. I know first-hand that it’s amazing. I’ve seen some of it. It’s mind-blowing. It relies a lot on character.”

Reynolds is currently part of his own Oscars push for Deadpool and, extremely coincidentally, Logan's Hugh Jackman is pushing for the hugely successful action-comedy to get a nod:

“When I hosted the Oscars, [The Dark Knight] didn’t get nominated, and everyone was talking about it,” he told Variety. “It’s a stretch to say these are injustices in life — we are happy and making movies. But I love it when someone like Ryan gets recognized. These big-budget or comic book movies are not easy to pull off.”

Logan seems to be the first step on Fox's path to "reconfiguring" the underperforming X-Men franchise. That follows the success of the vastly different Deadpool, which not only made a made a whole load of money, but began its awards push with a couple of Golden Globes nominations.

Logan will be released on March 3, 2017, and stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant and Dafne Keen as Laura, widely expected to be the comics' X-23.
