Individual Values (or IVs) are a hidden set of stats that are randomly applied to each Pokemon upon receiving or capturing them. They are part of what makes each Pokemon unique from another. These stats cannot be seen by looking at any stat menu in the game, but they can be calculated by using special calculators around the net or unlocking a function in the game.
Individual Values will determine how high or low a particular base stat can possibly be. The value will be somewhere between 0 and 31 -- 0 being the worst and 31 being the best. For example, if a Pokemon's Speed IV is 31, that means its speed can reach the maximum a Pokemon of that species could reach as long as it's Effort Values are properly alotted.
Pokemon Sun and Moon has drastically streamlined the way you check your Pokemon's IVs, at least once youve beaten the game.
Defeat the Elite Four and hatch 20 eggs, oddly enough, and an Ace Trainer in the Battle Tree will be so impressed that he will add a new function to your PC. That's right! You'll be able to check your Pokemon's IVs directly from the boxes on any PC.
Here are what the different terms mean:
- No Good: zero
- Decent: 1- 10
- Pretty Good: 11 - 20
- Very Good: 21 - 30
- Best: 31
