Han Solo Movie Cast Photo Released, Shooting Begins

They've punched it.

Principal photography has begun on Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Disney has released a picture (below) of the main cast, alongside the film's co-directors.

Beginning shooting yesterday at Pinewood Studios in London, and announced on StarWars.com, the film is scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.

The story says that "the movie will explore the duo’s adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian."

From left to right: Woody Harrelson, Chris Miller (director), Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Joonas Suotamo (as Chewbacca), Phil Lord (director), Donald Glover.

Of the pictured cast, only Chewbacca actor Suotamo (who had quietly played the wookiee for much of The Force Awakens) had not been confirmed or rumoured for a part before this release. However, confirmed actress Thandie Newton is missing from the line-up.

Only Ehrenreich (Han Solo), Glover (Lando Calrissian) and Suotamo have had their roles confirmed so far. Harrelson will reportedly play Solo's mentor, while Waller-Bridge will apparently play the part of a droid in a CGI-driven performance.

The news also confirms a number of those working behind the camera, including director of photography, Bradford Young, who previously worked on (the extremely pretty) Arrival.

“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous,” said directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) in a press release. “We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”

Production on the film - shooting under the working title Red Cup - began last month. The film will reportedly have a "heist or Western type feel", although you can expect Lord and Miller's focus on humour to come through too.
