Justice League of America #1 - $2.99
STL033429

By writer Steve Orlando & artist Ivan Reis | DC

We were fairly mixed on the first chapter of DC's new JLA comic, but only because it offered the same, familiar team-building story we've seen countless times before. Now that that setup is out of the way, the series is free to tell a more interesting story as it truly gets underway. This issue tests Batman's new League for the first time, as they confront the Doctor Doom-inspired Lord Havok and his team The Extremists. We're always up for a good Marvel vs. DC crossover (unofficial though it may be), and having Ivan Reis drawing that crossover sweetens the pot a great deal. But as with so many DC stories at the moment, there's also the question of how this conflict will feed into the larger DC Rebirth mystery.

Elektra #1 - $3.99
STL032820

By writer Matt Owens & artist Juan Cobal | Marvel

If Kingpin and Bullseye can have their own comics, it's only fair that Marvel give Elektra another chance in the spotlight. Some things have clearly changed for Elektra Natchios, as she has both a new costume (clearly Netflix-inspired) and a new home (glamorous Las Vegas). But the basics remain pretty much the same. Elektra is still a woman torn between her blood-soaked past and a desire to help those in need. And with the current Black Widow series ending soon, there's all the more need for a Marvel heroine who fits that niche.

Darkness Visible #1 - $3.99
STL032254

By writers Mike Carey & Arvind Ethan David & artist Brendan Cahill | IDW

We don't see enough of Mike Carey's name in the current comic book crop, so we're definitely excited about IDW's latest series. Darkness Visible pairs Carey with Dirk Gentley executive producer Arvind Ethan David for a series that's equal parts supernatural fantasy and detective yarn. Darkness Calling introduces a world where humans and demons reluctantly co-exist and where a a demon-possessed detective must save the world in order to save his daughter.

Detective Comics #951 - $2.99
STL034072

By writer James Tynion IV & artist Christian Duce | DC

Early in his Detective Comics run, writer James Tynion IV teased the existence of the League of Shadows, an even more secretive and deadly offshoot of the league of Assassins. That group is finally coming out of hiding as Tynion begins his third major story arc. And if that weren't enough, Batman's team will be forced to test their mettle against Lady Shiva, the deadliest fighter in the DC Universe.
