Reggie Fils-Aime Hints at a Future for Metroid, Mother 3 on Switch

"We hear all the commentary."

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime hinted at the future of two fan favorites on Switch.

Speaking to IGN, Fils-Aime stressed the differences in the two franchises, but said Nintendo is aware of the demand from fans to see the games on Nintendo's newest console.

Callking Metroid one of Nintendo's "crown jewels," Fils-Aime said Nintendo is "committed to that franchise." He stressed Nintendo's primary concern is moving the franchise forward.

As for Mother 3, "that has a different set of complexities." Fils-Aime said even though Satoru Iwata was involved with it, "it really isn't a Nintendo-owned franchise."

Fils-Aime reiterated Nintendo is aware of conversations happening around both the Metroid franchise and Mother 3, and said "let's see where we are a year from now."

Back at E3 2015, it looked more and more like Metroid wasn't going to make an appearance until Nintendo's next console, at the time codenamed NX. Metroid Prime's producer told us he wanted to make another Metroid Prime, but couldn't say when.

Nearly a year ago, rumors pointed to an official, Wii U Virtual Console Mother 3 release to coincide with the game's tenth anniversary.
