PAX Unplugged Announced, Focused on Tabletop Games

Coming to Philadelphia November 17-19.

At PAX South today, the newest PAX event was unveiled: PAX Unplugged.

PAX Unplugged will be a yearly event and will focus on tabletop games. It will debut in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Convention Center from November 17-19 this year, with three-day badges set to go on sale this Spring.

According to PAX event organizers ReedPop, the event will focus on “board, card, and other tabletop games” and, like every PAX, will include game reveals, tournaments, panels, and special events like concerts.

Penny Arcade co-founder Jerry Holkins confirmed in a statement that tabletop games will continue to appear at other PAX events, but Unplugged “will focus on stepping away from the TV, monitor and phone to foster face-to-face multiplayer experiences.” Video games are a possibility for Unplugged, a representative told us, but only digital tabletop games.

Meanwhile, PAX South is currently underway in San Antonio this weekend, with appearances from multiple game developers and a chance to try out Shovel Knight on Nintendo Switch.

The next PAX, PAX East, will take place in Boston, Massachusetts later this year from March 10-12.
