Bandai Namco Announces New Switch Titles

Drums and demons.

Bandai Namco has announced that it is developing games in the Taiko Drum Master and ‘Tales of’ series for Nintendo Switch.

After announcing the release of a Switch edition of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 earlier today, a press release added the two extra games to the line-up. Currently, only Nintendo of Japan has listed the games for launch, but the press release we've received is from the European branch of Bandai Namco.

We have contacted the publisher for clarification on whether this means a western release is confirmed. It’s worth noting that Switch will play region-free games, so western players will have the choice to play the games even if a western release doesn't happen.

No release dates or windows were mentioned for either of the titles.

The Taiko series is made up of drumming-based rhythm action games. So far, the only game released in English was Taiko Drum Master back in the PS2 days. We reckoned that “with more extra features and some more creative uses of the drum itself for the mini-games that really work with the rest of the game this would have been a much more interesting game.” The series has gone onto more critical success in Japan since then.

In our review of Tales of Zestiria, we said “It may have linear dungeons and a less-than-stellar story, but its open-world exploration, enjoyable customization, and flashy new Armitization feature are enough for it to stand on its own.”

Meanwhile, Tales of Berseria is due for a PS4 re-release in Q1 2017. If you want to see what it looks like in action, we’ve got a video showcasing what it’s like playing as a demon-eating demon. Hooray for cannibalism!
