Sony is officially funding and helping with the development of the newly announced Shenmue III, Sony’s director of third party production Gio Corsi revealed at E3 2015 today.
“So, this
has been ask for ever since I've been at PlayStation,” Corsi said during the PlayStation Live from E3 Stream. “And we met with Suzuki-san at GDC last year and we started the long road to try to figure out how we were going to get this thing made. And we said the only way this is going to happen is if the fans speak up, and we thought Kickstarter was the perfect place to do this.”
Sony showcased Shenmue III and revealed the game's crowdfunding campaign yesterday during its E3 press conference. Shenmue III was successfully funded on Kickstarter, smashing through its USD $2 million target less than nine hours after the campaign went live.
