Star Wars: Battlefront Makes it Fun to Be Rebel Scum


In Star Wars: Battlefront, sometimes you’re the powerful Jedi, swinging a lightsaber and saving the day. And sometimes, well… Sometimes you’re the Rebel Scum, snuffed out before you can even let out a Wilhelm scream.

For me, today was the latter. It was awesome.

I played Battlefront's wave-based co-op mode, Survival, on the Tatooine map. For the demo, we were pitted against six waves of enemies. I'm told the final version will have 15. On some waves, the goal is simply to survive and destroy the incoming troopers. Other waves tasked us with defending dropped pods or something similar.

There's plenty to love about the game. The shooting feels smooth and accurate. The environments, weapons, and characters are beautifully rendered and animated. What really nailed the experience for me, though, was way Battlefront uses sounds. They turn Battlefront from a great shooter (I've played a lot of those) into a great Star Wars shooter (Not quite so many of these).
