Mad Max May Not Be Fury Road, But it’s Still a Fun Ride


Spare a thought for the team at Avalanche Software. Extended development time has seen its apocalyptic open-world game based off the iconic Aussie Road Warrior get its release delayed from an original 2014 target window to September 2015, thus leaving it a post-apocalyptic Mad Max game held to imposing post-Fury Road quality standards. Truly expectations around the franchise are at an all time high.

And there’s no escaping it, Mad Max’s vehicular combat feels somewhat reined in when experienced in the wake of the balletically ballistic car carnage that George Miller and his crew triumphantly delivered in the excellent Fury Road. Chrome-grilled goons on stilts and gimp-suited guitarists aboard hulking vessels that are ten per cent engine and 90 per cent subwoofer? Sadly you won’t find them here, or at least not in the build of the game that Avalanche is showing at E3 2015.
