John Wick 3: 9 Things We Want to See

If Keanu Reeves’ assassin gets another movie, we know what needs to happen in order to continue the series’ excellence.

Keanu Reeves’ John Wick: Chapter 2 aptly built upon the first film and left us with a tantalizing taste of what we might see in a potential John Wick: Chapter 3. Though a third film isn’t confirmed yet, director Chad Stahelski and Reeves have expressed their interest in continuing the saga. Through the first two films, the John Wick franchise has painted a picture of a world very much unlike our own, one which includes a specific assassin subculture and a general population that seems to actively avoid acknowledging the violence around them. There’s still a lot we don’t know about this universe, and there are probably still hidden secrets left to uncover in the third film.

Before you go any further, consider this your spoiler warning. We’re going to be talking about the end of John Wick 2 and what that means going forward. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, you might want to do so before reading this list!

Again, full spoilers follow for the first two films.

John Wick vs. the World

As those of you who have seen the film can attest, John Wick: Chapter 2 left the title character in a pretty tight spot. John’s been excommunicated from the assassins subculture and the bounty on his head has been doubled. John may have warned Winston that he would kill anyone who came after him, but he sure seemed pretty desperate in those closing moments.

Naturally, the next step would be to see how John handles himself when literally everyone is gunning for him. Where can John go? And how many people is he going to have to kill just to find some measure of peace? We’re betting that it’s a lot of people. Maybe even too many for John Wick to handle.

A Worthy Adversary

One of the problems of both John Wick films is that neither of the two villains were in John’s league. Viggo Tarasov and Santino D’Antonio had their moments, but did anyone really think that they could defeat “Baba Yaga?” Even they didn’t believe that they were going to win, once John started killing people left and right.

What we really need is someone who is truly John Wick’s equal, both in skill and intelligence. Who is more ruthless than John Wick himself? Note that said person doesn’t necessarily have to be a man…

A Killer Leading Lady

Remember how much fun Ms. Perkins was in the first movie? Unfortunately, John Wick: Chapter 2 didn’t have much in the way of memorable female characters. Gianna D'Antonio briefly seemed very impressive... and then she died. We spent most of the movie waiting for Ares to do something spectacular... and then she died too! Even Ms. Perkins had an ignoble death in John Wick when she was executed on Winston’s orders instead of getting a final showdown with John.

While Ms. Perkins obviously can’t come back from the dead, there’s bound to be more lethal ladies looking to make a few million dollars by taking out John Wick. And there’s absolutely no reason why we shouldn’t see that happen in the next sequel.

A Rematch with Cassian

Common definitely had some good moments as Cassian in John Wick: Chapter 2, and he was one of the few characters that survived a battle with John in the movie... but only as a “professional courtesy.” When you think about it, Cassian was the only man with a legitimate grudge against John. After all, John killed Cassian’s charge, who was also someone that he cared deeply about. And there’s no way that Cassian will simply let that slide.

To put it bluntly, John made a mistake by letting Cassian live. And that mistake should come back to bite him.

The High Council

John Wick: Chapter 2 offered the briefest of glimpses of the High Council, the men and women who control organized crime around the world. They may or may not be thrilled that John personally eliminated two of their number during the course of the movie. But since the scale of the story keeps getting larger, it seems inevitable that the High Council will once again be involved when the sequel comes around. And perhaps that’s where we’ll finally get a worthy villain for John.

Full Matrix Reunion

Reeves’ Matrix co-star Laurence Fishburne basically had an extended cameo as the Bowery King in this movie. He wasn’t exactly an ally to John, but their interests briefly aligned. Their scenes together carried more weight simply because of their shared cinematic history. That’s why we’re suggesting that the next John Wick movie should take it even further by bringing in Carrie-Anne Moss to complete the Matrix reunion.

We’re not particular about whom Moss should portray, although a former flame or an old enemy would both be acceptable. If for no other reason, it would just be fun to see all three of The Matrix’s stars playing off of each other one more time.

The Gold Coins

One of the head scratching aspects of John Wick and its sequel are the gold coins, and their apparent importance as currency among the underworld. We’d love to know more about the assassins subculture and what the coins are meant to represent. You may recall that John hid a stash of coins beneath his concrete floor before his house was destroyed. If he really needs them, maybe John will dig them up in the next film.

John's '69 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Aside from the death of his dog and his own injuries during the robbery, John Wick was pissed that some Theon Greyjoy-looking wannabe mobster stole his classic car. At the beginning of the sequel, John got the car back... and he basically damaged it almost to the point where it couldn’t be fixed again.

That doesn’t mean we don’t want to see John’s signature '69 Ford Mustang Mach 1 at least one more time. It’s a beautiful car, and John should get to enjoy it for at least few minutes before he has to destroy it again. He is John Wick, and that’s just how things go in his world.

The Fate of John Wick

As much as we love the first two John Wick movies, we don’t think that the film series should go on forever. Making two great movies is hard enough, and it’s always a challenge to close out a film trilogy with a satisfying ending. That said, John Wick deserves an epic end. Whether that means he should die in a blaze of glory or find a way to retire once more is entirely up to the creative team.

John Wick’s story is exciting and enticing. But all great stories have to end at some point. If nothing else, John Wick’s ending should be just as dynamic as the films that preceded it. And some closure would definitely be appreciated.
