Hellboy 3 '100% Will Not Happen', says Guillermo del Toro

"That is to be the final thing about it."

It's been at best a shaky proposition for almost 10 years at this point, but the nail seems to have been planted in the coffin for the possibility of Hellboy 3.

Speaking on Twitter, Guillermo del Toro (who directed the first two Hellboy films) explained that following discussions, a potential third entry in the eldritch superhero series will not be made:

Those discussions would seem to be the ones he was gauging interest for only last month where he promised to speak to star Ron Perlman and comic book creator Mike Mignola if a poll reached 100,000 votes. It's not clear what's caused the breakdown in production.

In 2015, Perlman revealed that del Toro already had an "incredibly theatrical" plan for what a third installment would entail, and said that the core team behind the series "owe it to the fans" to make the film.

However, the signs haven't been good since Hellboy 2's 2008 release, with everyone from Mignola to the boss of Legendary Pictures saying a follow-up wouldn't see the light of day.
