Respawn Entertainemnt has cancelled Titanfall: Frontline - a standalone mobile game - following unsatisfactory beta tests.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the Titanfall-themed card game was to be the first in a multi-title partnership with mobile specialist Nexon.
A statement on the Titanfall: Frontline website reads:
"We’ve learned an incredible amount in the beta test of Titanfall: Frontline, but in the end felt the experience wasn't ready to deliver the intense action-packed gameplay synonymous with Titanfall. While it’s never easy to cancel a game, we’re excited to take some of the concepts we saw resonate with players and build off of them in future Titanfall mobile games."
Those participating in the game's closed beta will see the servers shut off on January 20.
Frontline was being developed by Particle City, a mobile-focused team created within Respawn. No announcements have been made about its future projects at time of writing.
Despite being regularly discussed as one of the best games of 2016 (including by us), Titanfall 2 reportedly underperformed in sales, and Respawn is unsure if there will be a Titanfall 3 - something unlikely to be helped by this new blow to the franchise.
