Nintendo has confirmed that Super Mario Odyssey will appear at E3 2017.
At the Switch reveal event in New York today, IGN asked Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime how they planned the news at last night’s press conference while still holding some announcements for E3. According to Fils-Aime, Nintendo considered letting attendees at today’s event try out Super Mario Odyssey, but ultimately decided to wait until June.
“The only decision that was made from an E3 consideration standpoint was ‘do we show Super Mario Odyssey from a hands-on perspective today versus E3?’ And we’re going to show it at E3,” Fils-Aime told IGN. “But at least from a Nintendo perspective, there’s no other consideration that is driven by E3.”
Super Mario Odyssey was announced last night for Switch and is due to arrive before the end of this year. During the Treehouse Live stream from New York today, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto shared a few new details about Super Mario Odyssey, calling it “something a little bit more on the core side” and noting that Nintendo has “made sure the camera controls are really smooth and easy to use."
E3 2017 will take place from June 13 to 15 later this year in Los Angeles.
