Dwayne Johnson recently met with the heads of DC Comics to discuss the actor's role as Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam! film and the DC Extended Universe.
Johnson took to social media to reassure fans that he's still signed on to play Shazam's biggest villain, Black Adam. The actor also mentioned that future DC movies will have some sort of a tonal shift towards more fun and optimistic films rather than the darker tone of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman.
Johnson first announced that he'll be playing Black Adam several years ago, but there have been little to no updates regarding the Sahzam! film and Johnson's role in it since then. Shazam! follows teenager Billy Baston, who discovers he has the ability to transform into the superhero Captain Marvel when he says the magic word "Shazam." Darren Lemke (Goosebumps, Jack the Giant Slayer) is penning the script.
Shazam!, which is currently without a director, is scheduled to come out on April 5, 2019, right before Justice League: Part Two, which hits theaters June 14, 2019. The next two upcoming DC films are Wonder Woman, which comes out on June 2, 2017, and Justice League: Part One, which will be released November 17, 2017.
Ben Affleck has also recently restated that he will be directing The Batman solo film despite saying earlier this month that "it's not a set thing."
