The CW is developing a reboot of Charmed, with Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Urman heading up the project.
According to Variety, Urman is writing the upcoming revival series alongside Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin, both of whom have worked with her on Jane the Virgin. All three will executive produce, as well as Propagate Content's Ben Silverman and Brad Silberling, the latter of whom is attached to direct.
Rose McGowan, Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs in Charmed.
While details on the Charmed reboot are being kept under wraps, one big difference is it will be set in 1976, rather than modern times. The project currently has a script order commitment.
This isn't the first time we've heard about a Charmed reboot, as CBS Television Studios was said to be developing a reboot back in 2013.
Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty starred in Charmed initially, with Rose McGowan taking Doherty's place a few seasons in as a new character. The series centered around three sisters who are also witches referred to as the "Charmed Ones," who used their magical powers as a force for good. Charmed debuted on the WB in 1998 and ran for eight seasons, concluding in 2006.
CBS Television Studios is behind the new show, which isn't the only revival series in the works at The CW. The network also has a reboot of The Lost Boys in the works.
