Atlanta: Season 2 Delayed Until 2018 Due to Star Wars

Glover signs a new deal with FX, but playing Lando Calrissian means we won't see Earn for awhile.

At the Television Critics Association press tour today, there was good news/bad news for Donald Glover fans. The good news is Glover -- who appears this summer in Spider-Man: Homecoming -- has signed a new overall television production deal with FX, but the bad news is we won’t get a second season of Atlanta until 2018.

FX executives John Landgraf, Nick Grad and Eric Schrier said that while they wished Atlanta would be back this year, when Glover got the opportunity to play Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars young Han Solo movie, they understood it was one he couldn’t pass on. With Glover serving as the creator, executive producer and sometime writer and director on Atlanta, there was no way to have the series back on the air this year, given his Star Wars commitments.

As for Glover’s new deal, he will develop new television series for FX Networks "and other networks and streaming services," while continuing on with Atlanta.

For more on Atlanta, check out what we had to say about the series when we recently named it the Best TV Comedy of 2016.
