Warner Bros. Eyes Big Oscar Campaign for Wonder Woman


Making a push for Best Picture and Best Director.

Warner Bros. is reportedly planning to launch a major campaign during awards season to get Wonder Woman recognized at the Oscars.

According to Variety, the studio has had internal discussions about launching a campaign for the DC film with the hopes of Wonder Woman becoming the first comic book movie to ever receive a Best Picture nomination. Additionally, Warner Bros. is said to be also be pushing to get Patty Jenkins nominated for Best Director.

While Warner Bros. has yet to officially comment on the matter, the studio will reportedly reintroduce the film this fall to reignite interest. Reports claim Wonder Woman garnered a strong reaction when screened at the Academy. For our thoughts on the film, read IGN's Wonder Woman review.

The Gal Gadot-led DC film has proven to be an incredible success. Not only is Wonder Woman now the DCEU's highest-grossing movie domestically, it also surpassed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to become this summer's highest-grossing movie at the North American box office.

As such, it's no surprise that Warner Bros. has already confirmed Wonder Woman 2 is coming in 2019.

Wonder Woman isn't the only film Warner Bros. is pushing for Oscar consideration, as Variety reports the studio is also throwing its weight behind Dunkirk and director Christopher Nolan.
