Apple itself has appeared to leak two new features for the iPhone 8 - 3D face-scanning tech, and a screen that covers almost the entire front face of the phone.
As reported by TechRadar, app developers Steve Troughton-Smith and Guilherme Rambo found icons and code within a new update for the HomePod app that point to the new features, both of which have been rumored to be changes for the iPhone 8.
The icon seemingly shows an iPhone without the Home button included, with a full-face touchscreen only impeded on by a notch for the speaker and front-facing camera. A full face screen would allow Apple to make an iPhone with a bigger screen than previous models, but a smaller overall size.
This lack of a Home button would seemingly also do away with iPhone's finger-scanning Touch ID unlocking. However, it may well be that 3D face-scanning is the solution to that.
Troughton-Smith found code indicating infrared-enabled face detection, which could well be a replacement. The use of infrared would allow faces to be scanned, even in darker environments.
The iPhone 8 is expected to be revealed in September.
