A Look at Spidey's New Costume for Infinity War

Homecoming's visual effects supervisor spills the beans.

Please be advised there are some SPOILERS ahead for both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Marvel's The Avengers: Infinity War.

Fans who were able to attend Marvel's presentations at the recent D23 Expo or San Diego Comic-Con were treated to an exclusive look at footage from Avengers: Infinity War, footage that revealed Spider-Man wears a new costume in 2018's superhero epic.

Indeed, the costume Spidey sports in Infinity War is the same new, sleek suit that Tony Stark offered Peter Parker -- and that Peter rejected -- at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Now, the company behind the creation of that costume have opened up about making both that and the vault that houses it.

"The new Spider-Man suit was actually designed for one of the next installments of the MCU and models and textures were done by Framestore. We took over the asset and did the lookdev based on provided Concept Art," Dominik Zimmerle, who served as visual effects supervisor on Homecoming, informed Art of VFX.

"The Vault itself was created from scratch by us. Our Concept Art department started from the closed outside look of it to define the graphical patterns and structure. Based on that we prepared simplified geometry and approached the interior look from an animation point of view, so how well we could create some more sophisticated opening animation with the available structure."

Zimmerle continued, "The idea was to have a clean, high tech, presentation Vault for the new suit. It should appear distinctively 'Stark' originated. Based on the feedback from the Studio we refined the interior structure and modeled, textured and look deved the Vault."
