Alice Braga has joined the cast of The New Mutants, replacing Rosario Dawson.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Braga (I Am Legend, Elysium, Predators) will star as Dr. Cecilia Reyes—the role previously assigned to Dawson—in 20th Century Fox's upcoming X-Men spinoff movie. The reason behind Dawson's departure from the project is not yet known.
As Reyes, Braga will play a medical doctor who can shield herself by creating a protective bio-field. Additionally, Reyes will serve as a mentor-like figure to the team of young mutants, who include Anya Taylor-Joy (Magik), Blu Hunt (Mirage), Maisie Williams (Wolfsbane) and Henry Zaga (Sunspot).
The New Mutants will open in theaters on April 13, 2018. For more on X-Men spinoff, which director Josh Boone says will be a "full-fledged horror movie," check out these photos of the cast as they prepare to start filming in Boston next month.
