July Free Xbox Games With Gold Announced

Plus there's the Xbox debut for a smart racing platformer.

July's line-up of free Xbox One and Xbox 360 games for Gold subscribers has been announced.

The full lineup, plus when they'll be available, is:

  • Grow Up — July 1-30 (Xbox One)
  • Runbow — July 16 - August 15 (Xbox One)
  • Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days — July 1-15 (Xbox 360 & Xbox One)
  • LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game — July 16-31 (Xbox 360 & Xbox One)

Grow Up is the scaled-up sequel of Ubisoft experiment Grow Home. We awarded it a 7.8, saying it "doesn't feel terribly different from Grow Home other than its larger world, but its main achievement is to strengthen some of its predecessor's weak points."

Runbow is a 2D racing platformer that began life on Wii U - this is its debut on Xbox One, after being ported to PC last year.

Kane and Lynch 2 got itself a 7.0 review back in 2010. We said that "if you appreciated the promise of the last game, or you're looking for something darker and more sophisticated content-wise than your usual shooter fare, then Kane & Lynch 2 is just the thing."

We gave the 360 version of LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean a 7.5, saying it was an "absolute blast for fans of either franchise", but criticising that it "can't seem to learn from its predecessors, featuring no online of any sort, confounding puzzle design and flawed controls".
