In Pokemon GO, you can often find Eggs in the wild, usually by interacting with PokeStops to find free items.
There are different kinds of Pokemon Eggs which can hatch into numerous Pokemon, but to hatch them you'll have to do a bit of work. Each player starts with one Egg Incubator, which allows you to hatch an egg after a certain amount of steps are taken, tracked by your phone's GPS and Pedometer and the game. There are 3 types of eggs, 10km, 5km, and 2km.
If you have more than one Egg Incubator, use the one with infinite uses on 2km eggs! That way, you'll get the most use out of it.
Pokemon Go Egg Kilometers (km) to Miles conversion:
10km = 6.3 miles | 5km = 3.1 miles | 2km = 1.25 miles |
To hatch an egg, check your Pokemon list and hit the tab labeled "Eggs". Clicking on the egg will prompt you to put it in an incubator to begin the process of hatching said egg. Note that you only have one incubator to start with, but more can be bought from the Shop, or rewarded for reaching certain levels - although the shop and other versions will break after 3 uses - while your starting incubator has unlimited uses.
Once in the incubator, you'll be given an indication of how many more kilometres you must travel in order to hatch the egg. Then its just a matter of going off to explore while your GPS does the work!
Take into consideration that the GPS works in sync with your phone's pedometer, so you can't trick it by hopping into a car and driving a few kilometres. Your game must be open and you must walk (or skateboard, if you're slow enough) for that distance to count toward the hatching of your egg. Fast moving vehicles will likely disable the distance traveled unless there are frequent slow downs or stops (and the phone is constantly being jostled to replicate pedometer movement).
Most eggs take between two to five kilometres to hatch, but just like in the original Pokemon games, the longer it takes to hatch the rarer the Pokemon probably is!
Hatching an egg will also earn you quite a bit of XP, and lots of Pokemon Candy for that Pokemon.
The following Pokemon can be found by hatching eggs for the distances of 2, 5, and 10 kilometres.
Potential Maximum CP of hatched and developed Pokemon for each egg type is listed below from most to least powerful, based on the unconfirmed stats recently revealed by Gamepress. CP effects a Pokemon's effectiveness is Gym battles.
Note that a higher kilometer egg STILL has the chance to grant a Pokemon from a lower kilometer egg.
In addition, both Rattatas and Pidgeys will no longer hatch out of 2k Eggs - or any other eggs.
As of February 16th, 2017, new Gen 2 Pokemon have been added to the pool of eggs. The list below is ongoing via preliminary crowdsourced information.
