The Grey and Bad Boys for Life filmmaker Joe Carnahan will direct The Raid remake.
Production company XYZ Films announced Carnahan's involvement on Twitter, followed by the director discussing The Raid project on his own Twitter feed. Carnahan, who is directing and producing, said his idea is more a reimagining than a remake.
"It's not a remake," Carnahan said on Twitter. "It's a reimagining of the same scenario. Everybody take a deep breath. We won't disappoint you, rabid-fanboy-from-hell."
Carnahan, who recently finished scripting the Uncharted movie, also mentioned on Twitter that The Raid remake "will hew closer in tone [and] feel to The Grey and Narc." He also noted that the original The Raid's director, Gareth Evans, is on board as a producer "has given us his full blessing" for the remake.
The Expendables 3 director Patrick Hughes was originally attached to the project. But he dropped out of The Raid remake along with True Detective actor Taylor Kitsch in 2015.
Frank Grillo, who portrays Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is still attached to The Raid remake and appears in the video announcement alongside Carnahan.
