The 13 Best Anime Couples

Featuring some of the sweetest and most tragic romances.

Many anime relationships never come to fruition, and all we’re left with is our fanart. These 13 couples, however, found love in ways that not only strengthen the characters as individuals but also the anime.

Spoiler warning for the following shows: Code Geass, Sailor Moon, My Love Story, Toradora, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Steins;Gate, The Seven Deadly Sins, Spice and Wolf, Mobile Suit Gundam AGE, Dragon Ball Z, Sound! Euphonium, and Pokemon.

Suzaku and Euphemia (Code Geass)

Each step forward Suzaku and Euphemia take together in their romance adds another dash of tension to the already intense show. Their love is pure and sweet — a princess and her knight and one of the only glimmers of hope in the dark time. We want them to succeed as the world grows worse around them.

Android 18 and Krillin (Dragon Ball Z)
Krillinandroid18

Krillin and Android 18 are an unexpected and adorable couple. Krillin has a huge heart, which is a great contrast for the “heartless” cyborg Android 18. She used to be human, and seeing Krillin help her regain her humanity again is oh so satisfying to watch.

Kyo and Tohru (Fruits Basket)
kyoandtohru

Tohru connected to the story of the cat in the zodiac as a child and has loved the cat ever since. Kyo has been hurt a lot and has a hard time dealing with feelings, but he is finally able to begin expressing his feelings thanks to Tohru. They look out for each other and she inspires him to control his anger and his temper. Tohru loves him and accepts him for all he is.

Inuyasha and Kagome (Inuyasha)
latest-1

Let’s face it, while Inuyasha is listed as an action adventure, we know it’s really about a complex love triangle. After nearly 200 episodes, seeing Inuyasha and Kagome finally get together called for one long sigh of relief. The two’s love is charming and unconventional — especially when Inuyasha’s old lover is Kagome’s feudal era incarnation — but sweet nonetheless. After the long adventure they’d been through, it’s hard not to be happy to see they chose each other in the end.

Flit and Emily (Mobile Suit Gundam AGE)
flitandemily

Flit and Emily may not be the most unique or glamorous couple, but they are definitely one of the strongest. Flit is a Gundam Pilot and Developer who sometimes buries himself in his work. On the other hand, Emily is a civilian who dislikes the war and the dangers that come with it. Even with such opposing ideals, the two eventually come to understand what drives the other to continue on. Through this acceptance and love, their relationship can last for many years.

Yamato and Takeo (My Love Story)
takeoyamato

My Love Story isn't about Yamato and Takeo falling for each other — they get together right away, and we get to see them grow as a couple. Their love is innocent and sweet, and they spend their time trying to share the love with their closest friends. Their relationship is built on truly valuing one another as people and as romantic partners. Even though they definitely act like immature, blushing kids, especially when it comes to hand-holding, the way they care for each other is wonderful and meaningful.

Don't miss the couples from Steins;Gate, Toradora, and more on the next page.
