New Details on Ultra Street Fighter 2's First-Person Mode

Do a Hadouken.

UPDATE: Capcom has pulled back the curtain on the first-person mode in Ultra Street Fighter 2. The new mode is called "Way of the Hado," and it includes Beginner and Hard difficulty settings, as well as an endless mode where Shadaloo soldiers "continue to appear until you have been KO’d." It's not just throwing fireballs, either. Shoryukens and Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyakus can also be pulled off in the mode. The original story, along with new images from Capcom, appear below.

Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers will come with an extra, Nintendo Switch-flavoured mode - it's pretty strange.

The back of the Japanese edition's box (thanks, Nintendo Everything) includes a section on a new mode called (according to IGN's translation), "Fire! Ha-DO-Ken". The "do" represents a play on words, implying that you "do" the action yourself.

The box blurb also makes mention of a "1st person POV full impact mode", and says that the Switch's Joy-Con controllers will be used.

As pointed out by Polygon, the game's announcement trailer appeared to show the mode very briefly - a slowed-down gif of that moment is below:

Going by this, and the illustrative image on the box, it appears as though Shadaloo enemies will appear in front of the player, who'll have to use Ryu's iconic move to dispatch them, all within a time limit. Given the Joy-Con motion controllers being specified, it could be that the player will have to use motion controls to perform the move.

The box also reveals that the game will contain an art gallery mode, with over 250 pieces of Street Fighter-themed art.

Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers features a new take on the classic game, with two newly remixed characters, Evil Ryu and Violent Ken. It is due for release on Switch this year, but has no confirmed release date.
