Mel Gibson has confirmed he's in talks to direct Suicide Squad 2.
Gibson was doing a Q & A session at a Feb. 15th screening of his Oscar-nominated war movie Hacksaw Ridge, and was asked by the moderator if the reports about him directing a sequel to Suicide Squad were true. “So is this getting close to a deal or is it a first date?,” the moderator asked, in which Gibson replied, "It’s kind of a first date."
You can watch Gibson talking about Suicide Squad in the video below, though it's hard to make out most of what he's saying. But, Gibson does mention that he's been talking about his potential ideas for the sequel towards the end of the video.
News of Warner Bros. eyeing Gibson to direct Suicide Squad first broke yesterday, and though there's no official offer for Gibson, he's in "early talks" with the studio and "familiarizing himself with the material."
Other directors on Warner Bros.' shortlist reportedly are Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Life) Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, The Night Before) and Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad, Zombieland).
Gibson has been vocal in the past bout his distaste for superhero films, calling the DCEU's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in particular as "a piece of s–t," and Marvel movies "more violent than anything that I've done."
