Aquaman star Jason Momoa has shared a few new details about Warner Bros.' upcoming DC solo film, saying he's "extremely happy" with the underwater world the studio has created.
In an interview with Digital Trends, Momoa highlighted an aspect of the film that he thinks is "cool," namely how Aquaman "taps into the native culture and that’s something that we're only taught a little about, so there’s a lot of interesting things."
He also said he's read the film's script and expressed his excitement in the DCEU exploring the depths of the sea. "I’ve never seen a movie that's anything like this. It's going to be a world that you’ve never seen before," he said, noting how prior DC films have ventured to other planets, but never underwater. "So it’s just a really cool spin on what’s below and it uses a lot of great movies that I already love," he added, specifically mentioning The Lord of the Rings, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Romancing the Stone and Star Wars.
Momoa also described the film as being "funny and heroic" with "a lot of really cool adventure" and "a lot of different characters and a lot of different worlds."
Aquamanopens in theaters on October 5, 2018. The Conjuring director James Wan is helming the film, which is expected to begin shooting in Australia in April. In addition to Momoa, the film will star Patrick Wilson as the villainous Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as the science advisor Nuidis Vilko and Amber Heard as the Atlantean Queen, Mera.
