Shazam may be zeroing in on a specific director.
The Wrap reports David F. Sandberg, known for his breakout hit Lights Out, is reportedly in talks to helm the DC Comics film. Sandberg also has another movie on the way in Annabelle 2, set to be released this summer.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson first announced he'll be starring as the villain turned antihero Black Adam in a Shazam movie several years ago. There was little movement on the project until recently when Johnson met with DC to discuss Shazam and the DCEU as a whole.
Shortly afterwards, it was reported that Shazam has been split into to movies, with Johnson getting his own standalone Black Adam film. The successful meeting between the actor and studio is what apparently led to the spinoff film. It is not currently known who will play Shazam.
Shazam will open in theaters April 5, 2019.
