LEGO Ship Sets Guinness Record for World's Largest

The vessel contains over 1,000,000 bricks.

A Danish shipping company has built the world's biggest ship made of LEGO bricks. As reported by Brothers Brick, DFDS built the giant plastic vessel, dubbed Jubilee Seaways, with over 1,000,000 individual LEGO bricks.

According to the DFDS blog, the ship was constructed to celebrate the company's 150th anniversary. Modeled after one of DFDS' real-life ferries, over 7,000 employees worked on the construction by assembling thousands of bricks made of 45 individual LEGO pieces.

DFDS plans to exhibit the Guinness World Record Jubilee Seaways at events around Europe. And speaking of LEGO, be sure to check out the latest on new LEGO Dimensions expansion packs.

Paladins: Champions of the Realm Coming to PS4, Xbox One

Free to play.

Hi-Rez Studios' team-based shooter Paladins: Champions of the Realm is getting a closed beta on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Just like on PC and Mac, Paladins will continue to be free on consoles. If you're on PS4, you can sign up for the beta here. Xbox One players can sign up here.

"From day one of development, Paladins was designed with console in mind," the developer wrote on its website. "We’ve enlisted some big-name console gamers to make sure the control scheme feels just right."

Similar to Smite, another Hi-Rez Studios game, Paladins uses a "fair free-to-play model." Players can unlock each of the current 17 champions and all of those released in the future for $20. Conversely, you can unlock every hero for free just by playing the game.

The fantasy-themed first-person shooter already had an open beta on PC, which was played by more than 1 million people. What's more, it's "consistently one of the top 10 most-played games on Steam."

Earlier this month, the developer responded to criticism that Paladins copied aspects of Blizzard’s Overwatch. According to Hi-Rez’s COO Todd Harris, the game's characters, who appear to mimic Overwatch heroes, "were available and playable" long before similar characters were shown in Overwatch.

IGN UK Podcast #351: Heartbreak and Heroes

Today's podcast has its ups and downs. Not in terms of quality, but in terms of emotions. We'll take you the depths of sadness, as we talk about grief and monsters, but we'll also reassure you by proving superheroes are absolutely real and they're probably having a pint at your local beer festival.

That might sound like an epic journey for a podcast to take – and it is – but it's one we comfortable encompass in little over 70 minutes. Enjoy!

He-Man/Thundercats #1 Makes Fanboy Dreams Come True

The whole gang is here. Except Gwildor.

If you thought Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the most awesome, nostalgia-crammed crossover the comic book industry had to offer in 2016, keep in mind that the year isn't over yet. Mattel and DC Comics are about to unleash He-Man/Thundercats upon the world. Soon, the two most muscular, sword-wielding action heroes in your toy box will be joining forces to take on Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living.

Fabulous secret powers were revealed to us today, as DC gave us sight beyond sight and provided us with an extended preview of He-Man/Thundercats #1. Scroll down to check out several variant covers and a full 11 pages of interior art from the first issue. These pages will give you a good idea of how and why these two universes are colliding.

DC's official description for the first issue reads:

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe team up with the ThunderCats—the epic crossover event you’ve waited thirty years to see! In his ever-living desire to destroy the mighty ThunderCats, Mumm-Ra quests for a weapon that can rival the legendary Sword of Omens: He-Man’s Sword of Power! But his dimension-spanning scheme kick starts a cataclysmic crisis that will embroil heroes and villains—Masters, Mutants and ThunderCats—in a mind-blowing six-part saga!

He-Man/Thundercats is co-written by Rob David (Mattel's Head Writer and Master of the Universe Creative Lead) and Supervising Producer Llyod Goldfine. The series is drawn by Batman/TMNT artist Freddie E. Williams II. The first issue will be released on Wednesday, October 5.

The Purge May Get a TV Show

12 hours of hell, 10 hours of TV.

With each film in the series making more money than the last, The Purge now seems to be making the move to TV.

Speaking to CinemaBlend, series writer-director James DeMonaco revealed that talks for a "an interwoven anthology" show were at an advanced stage:

"They came to me about a TV show," he explained. "My idea is that you do six or seven storylines. And I would kind of intercut them, use flashbacks."

The Purge series centres on a near-future USA that suspends all laws and emergency services for a 12-hour period once a year.

The main thinking behind the show seems to be based in being able to expand not the history of Purge Night itself, but what would drive someone to take part in the lawless carnage:

"Why I like the idea of a maybe 10 hour TV thing on this," explains DeMonaco, "the one thing you really can't do on the films is, just because of mere real estate and time, is you can't get into the nuance and complexity that would drive someone to commit a terrible act on this night."

"It will be interesting to show those arcs, those dramatic and complex arcs that get people to where they pick up a gun or a knife and kill someone else. I think there's something cool that we can do with the real estate of TV -- 10 hours, potentially."

It's not clear which networks or services have expressed an interest in the series, but DeMonaco told CinemaBlend that it would be more cable-oriented, and is "being taken very seriously from the higher-ups who obviously dictate everything."

We awarded the latest Purge film, Election Year, a 7.5, saying it "not only gives us the best story, set of characters and performances to date, but does a great job expanding on its point of view."
