Han Solo: Christian Bale Confirms He Was in Talks for Role

"I hope there will be future discussions."

Christian Bale has confirmed he was indeed in talks to appear in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

On the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast (first spotted by Collider), the Dark Knight actor was asked about a report that surfaced last year claiming Bale was being considered for the Star Wars spinoff before Disney and Lucasfilm cast Woody Harrelson in the role of Han's mentor.

"Yes, [it was] very tempting," Bale said of the project, noting he's not only been a Star Wars fan since he was a kid, but also has "a very long relationship with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall" since he worked with them in the 80s on the war drama Empire of the Sun. "There was discussion. I hope there will be future discussions," he added.

In the film, Harrelson plays a character named Beckett, who, according to the actor, is "kind of a criminal and mentor to Han."

Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released in theaters on May 25, 2018. Ron Howard stepped in to helm the spinoff film after Phil Lord and Christopher Miller left the project over creative differences with Lucasfilm. John Williams is writing a theme for Solo, with John Powell serving as the film's main composer.
