A live-action Superman prequel series will air exclusively on DC's forthcoming streaming service in 2019.
The series, titled Metropolis, received a direct-to-series order from Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment for a 13-episode first season. Metropolis takes place "before the arrival of Superman" and "follows Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets."
Production on Metropolis will begin later this year, with Gotham's John Stephens and Danny Cannon serving as executive producers. The first episode will be written by Stephens and directed by Cannon.
Metropolis is the fourth series announced for DC's streaming service. Along with the Superman prequel, the digital service will be the exclusive home to the live-action Titans series, Young Justice: Outsiders, and an adult-oriented animated Harley Quinn series.
DC is also developing a Superman prequel series with Syfy. Focused on Superman's grandfather, Krypton debuts March 21. For more, check out the 10 things we learned on the set of Krypton.
