Nintendo reports Pokemon Virtual Console re-releases have sold over 1.5 million units worldwide.
The sales numbers for Pokemon Red, Blue, Green (available only in Japan), and Yellow were shared by Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima at the company’s financial results meeting yesterday. Kimishima told investors that more than half of sales came from the American market. The number excludes digital copies included as part of hardware bundles when the games launched this past February.
Despite the high sales of the original Pokemon games on 3DS, Nintendo’s profits are down 61 percent year-over-year.
The Pokemon Company announced the digital re-releases of the original Pokemon games for 3DS/2DS/New 3DS as part of its 20th anniversary celebration of the series. The next installment, called Pokemon Sun and Moon, will release later this year.
