Fallout 4 Survival Mode Now in Beta on PC

Atom bomb, baby.

UPDATE: Bethesda confirmed today that the overhauled Survival Mode is now on beta on PC and will come to consoles next month. Survival adds "additional challenges including no fast travel, saving only when you sleep, increased lethality, diseases, fatigue, danger and more."

Original story follows:

Fallout 4's overhauled Survival mode will enter Steam beta on PC "soon," according to Bethesda. Although no other specifics were given, we've reached out for an official date and will update if we hear anything back.

Bethesda provided the release window on Twitter in response to a fan.

Unfortunately, we still don't know when the final version of the game mode will make its way to consoles. (UPDATE: Bethesda has since tweeted a release window, saying "Survival mode overhaul should be in Steam beta next week.") Speaking to GameInformer last month, game director Todd Howard said the beta period could last a month.

"If it’s not really working, and we need to iterate on it, it may stay in beta for a month, depending on what we are changing," Howard said. "But we want to make it have the game feel different."

The complete overhaul to Fallout 4's Survival mode was announced back in February, with sleep, hunger, and disease all playing a role.

In other DLC news, Automatron, the first piece of extra content in Fallout 4's Season Pass, just released today for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
