New Westworld Photos Offer Big Clues for Season 2

It doesn't look like anything to me.

Plot details for Westworld Season 2 have been kept tightly under wraps since the show ended its freshman season in December 2016, but between the intriguing Super Bowl trailer and these newly-released photos, we're starting to get a vague sense of what we can expect when the show returns on April 22.

First, check out the 11 new images below.

Some of these photos confirm what we already suspected, assumed or gleaned from the trailers, like Dolores and Teddy joining forces to get revenge on the guests, and gunslingers like the Man in Black and Hector still looking badass and ominous. But the new photos also tee up some interesting character interactions and alliances, as well as some clues about where our heroes are heading in Season 2.

We see Maeve in two different settings — looking polished alongside Lee Sizemore inside the Control Room (you can tell from the distinctive red lighting that's absent in the glass-walled diagnostic lab) brandishing one of the high-tech guns used by park security, and outside somewhere in what looks like the traditional period garb associated with Westworld, with her hair plaited for riding (or perhaps brawling).

The background of her outdoor shot is filled with smoke, while her face seems to be lit by the glow of flames, which could mean she's back wandering around Westworld after the hosts have wreaked havoc, searching for her daughter, or it could be a shot from inside Shogun World that the producers don't want to give us details of yet. Since HBO debuted some still-unreleased footage at South By Southwest that showed Maeve making a surprising connection with Shogun World, it seems safe to assume that she'll be our gateway character to the new park — although it's possible that Hector and Armistice might also find their way to the samurai-filled park at some point, given that they were also in the Mesa Hub at the end of Season 1. Maybe Sizemore is the one who shows her the door, since he's looking a little concerned to be so close to her here. (Note the dead body just at the edge of the shot.)

Tessa Thompson's character was last spotted at Ford's ill-fated gala when the hosts went rogue, but here we see her with Bernard, looking none the worse for wear in the same gown she was wearing in the finale, in what looks like the Mesa Hub.  Unlike Dolores, it looks like Bernard still has empathy for the humans, given how long he thought he was one, so it seems as if he might be responsible for helping lead the board members safely out of the park.

Bernard Lowe

Bernard features in several intriguing photos from this new batch — we also see him standing alongside park security head Ashley Stubbs, who was last seen being ambushed by members of the Ghost Nation tribe (he's okay, folks!), and two newcomers for Season 2 — Gustav Skarsgard's Karl Strand, and Betty Gabriel's Maling, who both seem to be part of a security force sent into the park to quell the host uprising (check out Maling's heavy artillery and tactical gear).

We also see Bernard alongside another new addition, tech expert Antoine Costa (Fares Fares), in the middle of a makeshift camp populated by more military-looking types; if Charlotte and the other board members do succeed in escaping, it makes sense that they would send in the big guns to try and bring the hosts to heel as quickly as possible, even if that means a scorched earth approach.
