The HTC Vive Pro, with several improvements over the original HTC Vive, can now be pre-ordered for $799 USD. All Vive Pro units ordered before June 3 come with a 6-month subscription to Viveport at no extra cost.
Additionally, the price of the original HTC Vive is dropping by $100 effective immediately, putting it at $499 USD "across the globe." Last August, HTC dropped the Vive price to $599.
HTC announced the Vive Pro at CES 2018, as well as a Vive wireless adapter to be released at a later time. The improvement that most immediately jumps out is the increased resolution. The Vive Pro uses dual OLED screens for a combined resolution of 2880 x 1600, a "78% increase" over the original Vive headset.
The Vive Pro headset has also been redesigned for more comfortable wear, with a new strap providing better balance and easier adjustments for glasses-wearers. The headphones have also been improved.
Viveport Subscription lets players "choose from over 400 pieces of content," and the free 6-month subscription for Vive Pro owners allows for "the chance to play 30 titles."
Vive Pro pre-orders are now open on Amazon and the official HTC Vive website.
