Marvel's Spider-Men II mini-series has begun, and a five-year-long mystery is finally being addressed.
Warning: this article contains spoilers for Spider-Men II #1!
When the original Spider-Men series unfolded in 2012, Peter Parker and Miles Morales were still living in different universes. That book ended with Peter returning home and deciding to look up whether a version of Miles existed in his universe. The answer apparently shocked him.
As Spider-Men II opens, Peter and Miles are now both residents of the Prime Marvel Universe and happily share the mantle of Spider-Man. This issue finally, definitively establishes that both characters remember the fact that Miles once lived in the Ultimate Universe before crossing over after that universe was destroyed in 2015's Secret Wars.
That still leaves the question of what Peter uncovered when he Googled Miles' name in the original Spider-Men. That's a mystery this series will address, and this first issue finally gave readers their first glimpse of "the other Miles Morales."
We don't know much about this other Miles yet, but it's clear from this page that he's older, richer and much more scarred than his alternate universe counterpart. Does he also have superhuman powers? Will he be hero or villain in this story? And why is he so concerned that the two Spider-Men are dabbling in multiverse shenanigans again? We'll find out as Spider-Men II continues to unfold over the next several months.
