R2-D2 Unit From Original Films Sells for $2.76 Million

The droid someone with a lot of money was looking for.

An R2-D2 unit made from original parts used while filming the original Star Wars trilogy (and the first two prequels) has sold for  $2.76 million.

EW confirmed the sale via the California-based auction house Profiles in History.  The 'ultimate' R2 is made out of  aluminum, steel, and fiberglass elements, measures 43 x 29.5 x 20 inches, and was assembled from R2s featured in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. Information on the buyer of the droid has not been released.

In other Star Wars news, Ron Howard has already begun work on the Han Solo Anthology movie after original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired,  but Disney seemingly already had plans to alter what had been filmed.
