Longtime Kermit the Frog Performer Replaced

Matt Vogel will take over the role.

After 27 years on the job, Steve Whitmire will no longer voice Kermit the Frog.

Disney's Muppet Studio confirmed to Muppets fan site ToughPigs that Whitmire is being replaced by Matt Vogel, who's been with the Muppets since 1996.

Vogel is currently the performer behind Sesame Street's the Count, Floyd Pepper, and Camilla the Chicken. He also voiced Kermit impersonator Constantine in Muppets Most Wanted.

Whitmire revealed in a recent statement that it wasn't his choice to leave the role as he "would never consider abandoning Kermit or any of the others because to do so would be to forsake the assignment entrusted to me by Jim Henson." Talks of replacing Whitmire reportedly first began in October 2016.

Whitmire joined the original Muppet Show in 1978. After Jim Henson passed away in 1990, Whitmire took over the roles of Kermit and Ernie.

He was also the voice behind characters like Beaker, Rizzo the Rat, and Statler. There's no word yet if Vogel will take on these roles as well.
