Lethal Weapon 5 May Be in the Works

They may not be too old for this after all.

Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, and Dick Donner are looking at the possibility of making Lethal Weapon 5.

Deadline reports the trio are interested in a sequel, and Donner would direct the film for Warner Bros., with the script handled by Lethal Weapon 4 writer Channing Gibson. The report claims there are "many moving parts" and so nothing is official just yet, but that all parties are interested.

The Lethal Weapon franchise focuses on the relationship between reckless cop Riggs, played by Mel Gibson, and his more even-headed partner Murtaugh, played by Danny Glover.

In the original film, Riggs is assigned to be Murtaugh's partner, and the two butt heads on how best to take down criminals until they stumble upon a massive drug-smuggling operation.

The buddy cop action comedy franchise launched in 1987, while the last film, Lethal Weapon 4, hit theaters in 1998. There is also a Lethal Weapon TV series currently airing with different actors playing the famous duo.
