Zelda: What Every Amiibo Unlocks in Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is compatible with Amiibo and supports Amiibo Functionality on both the Wii U and Switch consoles.

Players can use a variety of both Legend of Zelda themed Amiibo and non-Zelda Amiibo to scan in to perform a variety of features depending on the particular Amiibo.

Amiibo can be scanned in using the Sheikah Slate, much like other Runes. Note that by default, the Amiibo Rune is not active and listed on your Runes - you must turn the ability on in the options menu.

Amiibo can be scanned once a day - but before you scan one, read about this exploit.

Because the rewards are randomly generated each time you scan an Amiibo, it's very easy to take advantage of.

Right before scanning an Amiibo, save the game. If you don't like what's inside the chest, simply reload the save and scan the Amiibo again. Repeat until you have the items you want!

See a list of every Amiibo's function below.

Zelda-themed Amiibos will summon special chests, some with exclusive equipment, plus a different variety of items that drop outside of the chest sometimes within barrels and crates. Most weapons will not appear in these chests until the Paraglider is received.

Others will not appear until after the Main Quest, Free the Divine Beasts, have been completed. These special, rare items are noted with an *asterisk.

Note: While technically the exclusive armor is only helmets - they match perfectly with the Ancient SetArmor, and if the Divine Beast Helms are upgraded, they can be used in place of the Ancient Helm to provide an Ancient Proficiency Set Bonus when paired with the Ancient Armor and Ancient Trousers.

There is also a Twilight Princess Amiibo set, but it's identical to what Smash Bros. Link summons.

Virtually all Amiibo not affiliated with The Legend of Zelda can also be used to summon a supply drop of ingredients, but the ingredients are always a random assortment anywhere from three to six - but does not include a chest.

By tapping the Wolf Link Amiibo during play, you will be able to summon a Wolf Link partner character from Twilight Princess to assist you. Wolf Link will help out both in combat and in scavenging, and will even hunt and track down other wildlife to provide you with food. If you have your Shrine Sensor on, Wolf Link will also search out nearby shrines for you.

This Amiibo can be scanned multiple times per day so long as Wolf Link is not killed - in which case he cannot be resummoned again in a day.

By default, Wolf Link will be summoned with three hearts, but there is a way to increase his life. By playing Twilight Princess HD, you can use the Wolf Link Amiibo to enter the exclusive Cave of Shadows. By completing all 40 levels of the cave, you will be asked to save your progress to the Amiibo - which will track how many hearts you have left at the end of the dungeon. Saving this will mean that summoning Wolf Link in Breath of the Wild will appear with however many hearts you had at the end of the dungeon.

Remember that you can also use the Zelda amiibo to replenish your hearts in the Cave of Shadows, and once initially saved, the Wolf Link amiibo can also grant additional hearts. By using them at the end of the dungeon before saving your progress, you can ensure that a maximum heart Wolf Link will be saved.
