In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you'll find that the game is expansive and vast - a first for the series. As such, it's easy to get lost and miss out on some great things to find or do early in the game. That's why we've listed Things to Do First in Breath of the Wild.
Remember that you can play this game any way you want, so feel free to experiment, explore, and have fun!
On the Great Plateau, you'll soon find that some regions have more extreme temperatures than others. You can circumvent these hazardous weather environments through clever use of cooking and making elixirs - but you can also wear warmer clothing.
One such piece of clothing - the Quilted Doublet, is available on the Great Plateau, and you can get it through several different methods. If you check the Southeast of the region you can find the hut belonging to the Old Man. His diary states that he made a dish but can't remember the ingredients he used. If you find and cook a Hot Pepper, Raw Meat, and Hyrule Bass, you can make his lost recipe. Show it to him, and he'll give the doublet to you for free. You can also brave your way to the top of Mount Hylia where you'll happen upon the Old Man again, and he'll reward you for getting up this high without warm clothing with the doublet.
If you miss out on getting the clothes by the conclusion of the quests on the plateau, return to the Old Man's hut and you'll find that he's left it for you regardless.
It goes without saying, but every ingredient you can find in the world serves a purpose - many serve multiple purposes! If ever you should see something sparkling by a tree, on a cliff, or just lying in the grass - be sure to stop and grab it. Your ingredient inventory is unlimited, so go nuts, and experiment with cooking to make the perfect meals.
Wandering around the Great Plateau, you'll mostly have only wooden sticks and clubs to fight off Bokoblin hordes. Pay attention and look for chests or tougher enemies to build up your aresenal. A few chests in the Temple of Time have good bows, while you can also find an axe at the Old Man's hut, and a Sledgehammer in one of the Shrines on the cliff above his hut.
Be sure to explore as you leave the plateau, for weapons are often found in optional chests when doing Shrines, and you can always find something to use in villages and stables.
Ever notice something out of place in the world? A ring of stones or lillies in a pond? A small stone convinently placed on a lone plateau? Check around, and you'll probably run into one of the many Koroks in Hyrule. They'll reward you with a Korok Seed if you find them - and trust us, they're worth collecting. Which brings us to the next topic...
On the road to Kakariko Village, be sure to keep an eye out for a very large and conspicuous Korok named Hestu. He'll need your help with something, and if you give him aid, he'll reward you by offering to increase inventory space for weapons, bows, and shields - but requires Korok Seeds to do so!
Hyrule is a big land to explore and travelling on foot may take awhile. It's worth your while to go find a Wild Horse, catch and tame it. Wild Horses can often be found in the large fields, both Northwest of the Great Plateau and beyond, in the fields near Dueling Peaks stable, and all across Hyrule.

All around Hyrule, you can spot Resurrection Towers in the distance. There's one in every region, and interacting with one will give you the details of the map for that region. However it won't automatically put points of interest on your map, so use towers to get a good look around at nearby Shrines, stables, and other interesting points and mark them on your map so you can glide down and explore them.
Along the Great Plateau and even below, you'll likely find the ruins of many rusting and forgotten Guardians. Check carefully and you'll find you can examine them to loot ancient parts from the rusted bodies. These serve pretty important uses later in the game, but can also be sold to earn some quick rupees in a pinch.
Just make sure the one you're examining doesn't wake up!
You may notice that you can't just find Heart Pieces in Breath of the Wild. That's because there aren't any. Instead, the only way you can gain additional Heart Containers is by praying to any of the Goddess Statues in the main towns and the Temple of Time.
In exchange for 4 Spirit Orbs gained by completing Shrines, you'll be able to claim either a new Heart Container or Stamina Vessel. If the enemies you're fighting seem too tough, or you need to prove your inner power, be sure to go hunting for Shrines to increase your stats.
Cold resistance isn't the only special effect clothing can have. If you're travelling East from the Great Plateau through the Dueling Peaks, be on the look out for Ree Dahee Shrine. Inside you can find an optional chest that holds the Climber's Bandana, which increases the rate at which you climb.
Considering how much of this game is spent climbing something - it's one of the most useful Attire. The rest of the set isn't quite so easy to find but if you'd like to know where it is anyway, look below.
The Climbing Gear and Climbing Boots are both a bit more out of the way, in Hateno. For the boots, follow the Secret of The Cedars quest. The torso piece is found in the Chaas Queta shrine on a small island out in the sea. To get there, glide out from the nearby cliff. It's a long glide so be sure to either upgrade your stamina first or cook up some stamina-recovering food - and be prepared for a tough fight!
There are several Fairy Fountains hiding in the regions of Hyrule, and are worth visiting. Besides the regular fairies you can catch that float around the fountain, the Great Fairies themselves can help you out in a big way - if you're willing to pay up.
Once you coax a Great Fairy out, they will offer to improve your Attire in exchange for certain ingredients. Each Great Fairy you bribe allows all Great Fairies to improve items one level higher, making it worth it to find all the fountains, although they also ask for steadily more money. The first one only asks for 100 rupees and you can easily find one in the hills above Kakariko Village near the shrine - so don't delay!
Treasure is everywhere in Hyrule, and can contain anything from Arrows to some of the rarest weapons imagineable. Be sure to constantly be on the lookout as you travel, as chests can be found underwater, under rubble, or waiting in ruins for someone to happen upon them. Many chests will require a bit of ingenuity and use of Runes to uncover.
It goes without saying, but Hyrule is immensley huge, and there are secrets hiding in call corners - many of which aren't marked on your map. Be sure to climb the tallest peaks, glide across canyons, and explore every ruin to find great loot.
