On Friday's new episode of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, "Rewind" - airing December 22nd at 9/8c - nothing will stop Fitz from finding the lost team as his incredible journey is revealed and Nick Blood returns to the fold as Lance Hunter.
Blood spoke to me about his new stint to the series, after having last been seen back in Season 3's "Parting Shot" (after which, he and Adrianne Palicki went off to film the Marvel's Most Wanted pilot that didn't get picked up), and revealed what Hunter's role is in this new Season 5 space/time travel adventure.
"Hunter finds Fitz in the middle of this big challenge," Blood explained. "Fitz is trying to figure out and work out how he’s going to find the rest of his gang, who's off who knows where, it's a mystery, and Hunter is gladly available to come and lend a helping hand. Then the two of them go a bit renegade and move off the grid slightly. Obviously, Hunter’s still got to keep his head down since he’s still exiled from SHIELD. But yeah, this episode was a chance for those two guys to hang out and bond. It was a lot of fun. It's quite funny too."
Marvel's Most Wanted didn't work out, and Palicki's now on FOX's The Orville, but Blood was able to make his schedule work for this week's crucial installment. "It was kind of a whirlwind thing," he said, "because I was shooting something in the U.K. so I sort of had to put a pause on that project and get on a plane to L.A. so that I could shoot the next day. It was kind of this quick in-and-out thing but it was great to catch up with all the crew and all the people who work behind he scenes, and then also to just get to hang out with Ian."
Obviously, because of the story, Blood couldn't exactly reunite with everyone from the cast. "It would have been great to catch up and work with the whole cast," Blood said, "but just with Ian here, we really relished the opportunity to explore that relationship between Hunter and Fitz. We’d spent a lot of time together in the previous seasons I was in, so this was a lot of fun. But it would have been great to see more people. We thought it would have been fun to throw Mack into it and get the three of us on a mission, but he’s off in space."

Has the time away been good for Hunter? Blood offered that Lance isn't the kind to change his ways. "Oh, you know what Hunter's like," he said. "He never gets too worked up about anything and he never gets too down about anything. So given all that, he’s probably been bickering with Bobbi [Morse, Mockingbird] on the regular and picking up some mercenary work here and there. Dodging bullets occasionally. I think he’s just glad to see his old mate again."
