Middle-Earth: Shadow of War Expansion Details

New Orc tribes and story expansions incoming.

Warner Bros. has announced details regarding the future of Middle-earth: Shadow of War - the latest video game to be set in JRR Tolkein's fantasy universe - and it certainly gives players plenty to look forward to, particularly anyone who has invested in the Season Pass.

Over the next couple of months, two new tribes of Orc will be introduced to Shadow of War, with the Slaughter tribe arriving in November and the Outlaw tribe following in December. Both expansions will introduce new tribal fortresses along with throne rooms, monuments and outposts, as well as new Epic and Legendary Orcs which can be defeated for enhanced loot, including brand new Legendary gear. The Slaughter tribe are specifically noted as being "the most bloodthirsty in Mordor", with a warning for players that they can lay an ambush at any point. The Outlaws, meanwhile, hold a "deep contempt" for both foreign invaders as well as Lord of Mordor.

In addition to the new Orc tribes, there are at least two story expansions incoming. February 2018 will see the "Blade of Galadriel" expansion, in which players take on the role of Eltariel - the eponymous Blade of Galadriel - who uses dual blades and the "Light of Galadriel" to take on the Nazgul, using new combat skills and gear to take on new enemies such as "Flint and Tinder and Slayer of the Dead". This expansion will also provide eight Legendary Orcs who can be added to the story campaign, bringing new abilities with them.

This will be followed in May 2018 by the "Desolation of Mordor" expansion; here, players will becoming Baranor, Captain of Minas Ithil and survivor of the city's destruction, leading a force of Men against "a new Orc threat from the East". With the aid of Torvin, a Dwarven Hunter, players will be able to craft new gear, as well as hiring mercenaries to conquer an all-new area known as Lithlad. This expansion also provides a roguelike campaign mode, offering players the chance to play through the game world as a human with no access to Rings or wraiths and no ability to cheat death.

In addition to the above expansions, all players will receive periodic free updates, although Warner Bros. has not given any further details on what this may entail.

The Slaughter Tribe, Outlaw Tribe and Blade of Galadriel expansions will be available for £11.99 each, with the Desolation of Mordor expansion priced at £15.99. For anyone thinking about picking up all four expansions, however, the Season Pass is till available at £32.99, which provides all the above content at a saving. For anyone who hasn't picked up the game yet, the Gold Edition - priced at £89.99 - comes already-bundled with the Season Pass.
