Amazon Key Grants Delivery People Access to Your Home

The door is open.

Amazon has revealed a new service for Prime members called Amazon Key that allows packages to be delivered inside their houses.

In a step-by-step guide that teaches you how to let Amazon-approved strangers enter your home, Amazon reveals that the new Key service for Prime Members is meant to ensure safe delivery of packages. The company highlights the ability of Key users to allow remote entry to anyone they choose with the installation of a new camera and lock system.

The Amazon Cloud Cam and Smart Lock are included in the Amazon Key In-Home Kit.

Amazon Prime customers that use Amazon Key and select "Free in-home delivery" at checkout will receive notification just before their items are delivered. They will then be able to watch the delivery live via the Amazon Key App, or view a video of it later. Amazon will also notify customers once the delivery is complete and the door is relocked.

In addition to the ability to remotely lock or unlock the door, Amazon Key users will be able to schedule permanent access to close friends or family members and temporary access to frequent visitors such as house guests, cleaning services, or pet sitters. Customers will be notified any time a guest locks or unlocks the door.

Amazon will expand the service in the coming months to include professional service providers, such as maid service Merry Maids, or pet caretakers from Rover.com, in addition to over 1,200 services from Amazon Home Services.

Now it will be easier than ever to grant access to people who need it.

Interested Prime members must purchase the Amazon Key In-Home Kit, which costs $249.99. The kit includes an Amazon Cloud Cam (Key Edition) indoor security camera, as well as a compatible smart lock from Kwikset or Yale. The camera features full 1080p HD and night vision, as well as two-way radio for easy communication.

The service is only available in certain regions, but many major cities are included in the list.

Now if only Amazon will announce a Prime Now food service with delivery straight to your mouth.
